"Sherry" Eva Sharlene (Edgerton) Loberg

Dear Friends & Family,

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Sherry’s passing. On Friday she fell and was transported to Nanaimo Hospital. Her injuries were severe and irreparable. We were blessed to have some of our close family members arrive Saturday and Sunday to have time with Sherry before her passing at 1:38 pm on April 27th, 2020.

Sherry is survived by her husband Harold “Ralph” Loberg, their daughter Cheryl (Davis) & Jeff, grandchildren Zachary, Isaiah, Ezra, their daughter Karla (Loberg-Walter) & Michael, grandchildren Marina, Courtnal, Lauren, Marcus, their son Christopher Loberg & Britany, grandchildren Colton, Kenya, Presley, Jace, Holden. As well she is survived by her sister Linda (Steinke) and her brother Greg (Edgerton) & Linda and their families.

Sherry’s life was spent enjoying nature, seeking adventure, and always bringing people together. She had “Loberg’s Home Bakery” and she made the best sticky buns, pies, cookies, carrot cake, and bread. For over 10 years, she was office manager at the Cranbrook Physiotherapy office and ‘adopted’ many physiotherapists and their families, as Ralph and Sherry helped them settle and connect in the community. Sherry never measured herself or others by today’s standards or social status. She was, first and foremost, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend. Sherry had a strong faith in Christ and lived it with action. She was our encourager; lifting us up with kind words and her infectious enthusiasm. Her laughter brought joy and she was always confident enough to laugh at herself. Sherry welcomed so many into her circle - building a community of support wherever she was. She loved to go for walks and enjoyed camping, scrapbooking, traveling, and most of all connecting with friends and family. Building friendships was almost effortless for Sherry, and chances are, if you spent more than a few hours in her company you would be invited to stop for a visit and meal “if ever you came through the Kootenays.” Sherry cooked, baked, and cared for others with humble and genuine acts of kindness. We believe that she put her gifts into action to show those around her that her heavenly Father too longs to have a relationship and to comfort all of His children. We think of Sherry and we are reminded of The Word: “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you
since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:34-40).

We are comforted to know that despite our deep grief and anguish, and through the valley of death in which we are walking, we have confidence and peace knowing without doubt, Sherry is celebrating in heaven. She is with her Saviour, and surrounded - as she loved to be - by family, friends, and neighbours who have gone on ahead. And one day, by our faith in Christ, we will all be united. God is sovereign. He is our comforter and our hope is in him. Because of this we did not say goodbye, but rather, “We will see you later.” Praise God.

A celebration of life will be planned once some of the current restrictions have been lifted. Our goal is to carry forward the legacy Sherry left us: Be present and available; do not let busyness or challenges get in the way of living in the moment and sharing joy with those around you.
