Michael Sickels Obituary

On the morning of August 27, 2022 Mike passed away.  We love you, Mike.  We miss your wisdom, laugh and the big ideas you dream!

Mike leaves his wife Dianne Sickels and their children, Kaija Sickels and Brianna (Ben) Gingerich.  “Pa” will be missed by his grandchildren: Avery, Maeva and Boden.  As the oldest of six kids, Mike is also remembered by his brothers, sisters and their families: Rhonda (Dave), Cliff, Deb (Bob), Tim and Ron (predeceased by Michelle); his brothers and sisters in law (David/Linda, Dawna/John, Dave, Ruth); as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many friends who are like family.  Predeceased by his parents, Dean and Ilene.

Thank you to the health workers who were so kind to Mike over the years from the Cancer Care unit.  He made some amazing friends!  Also, a huge thank you to the amazing staff at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, and Palliative Care Unit, who cared for Mike during his last few weeks.

Mike was kind and compassionate towards others.  Whether he was making soup for neighbours, helping to build or repair something, working with students as an Educational Assistant or bus driver, or leading in various capacities at churches and camps, Mike always had a strong work ethic and the intention of building community with others.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at Oceanside Community Church (1420 Alberni Highway, Parksville, B.C.) on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.  A time to spread ashes will follow in the afternoon at Nanoose Bay Pentecostal Camp (2531 Nanoose Beach Rd., Nanoose Bay, B.C.).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Nanoose Bay Pentecostal Camp (https://www.nanoosebaycamp.ca/donate) and Oceanside Community Church (https://www.oceansidecommunitychurch.ca/).
