Patricia Gouge Obituary

In Loving Memory Of Patricia Maud Gouge
To think of Pat is to smile

Patricia Maud Gouge passed away peacefully early on January 29, 2024 in her 97 th year, with
her loving family by her side. She is survived by her loving children Bill (Hitomi), Patricia (Calvin)
and Joan (John); grandchildren, Sara, Arisa, Sam (Ayala), Peter, Jill, Melissa, and Todd; great
grandchildren Noah, Kiara, Sara, Josh, Madison, and Reide. She was pre-deceased by her
loving husband, John, twin sister Joan and brother Bill. Pat was very proud to be a twin herself
and to have twin granddaughters. She will be dearly missed by her many friends and extended
family.
Pat first knew John in Drumheller where they were both born and raised. They later re-united at
UBC where they fell in love and married. She was devoted to John throughout her life and
visited him faithfully every day when he was in the care home despite having to take two buses
to get there. Pat was a kind, caring and generous person who was beloved by numerous friends
and of course extended family. She had an infectious enthusiasm for life, and she touched the
lives of all she met. Pat had a wonderful sense of humour and was never afraid to make people
laugh at her. This was seen in her lifelong enthusiasm for dressing up in costumes which she
did right up until Halloween of 2023!
Pat was an active member of the Anglican Church and fully participated in the activities of the
parish such as the annual Dickens Bazaar where both she and John would don vintage attire for
the day. As a long-term member of the altar guild, she created beautiful floral arrangements for
the church and then delivered them to seniors after the service. She was also an active
volunteer at Covenant House and the Cancer Society.
Pat relocated to Qualicum Beach in 2015 where she lived at the Gardens Retirement
community. As she did throughout her life, Pat embraced life at the Gardens and participated in
numerous activities there. While at the gardens she co-authored a song titled Welcome to
Canada which won a Lieutenant Governor General Award.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 9, 2024, at 2 PM at St Mark’s Anglian
Church in Qualicum Beach with a reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations
to the Canadian Cancer Society or Covenant House Vancouver would be greatly appreciated.
